Jaime’s sneering remarks
The bastard Jon Snow, who is preparing to leave for the Wall, watches Mikken, Winterfell’s blacksmith, fashion a small sword. Jaime Lannister approaches the men.
Jaime Lannister: A sword for the wall?
Jon turns toward him.
Jon Snow: I already have one.
Jaime Lannister: Good man. Have you swung it yet?
Jon Snow: Of course I have.
Jaime Lannister: At someone, I mean.
Jaime sneers at him. After a long pause, he moves very close to Jon looking at him straight in the eyes.
Jaime Lannister: It’s a strange thing, the first time you cut a man. You realize we’re nothing but sacks of meat and blood and some bone to keep it all standing.
Jaime offers his hand to Jon who shakes it.
Jaime Lannister: Let me thank you ahead of time for guarding us all from the perils beyond the Wall… Wildlings and White Walkers and whatnot.
When Jon tries to let go of his hand, Jaime instead abruptly pulls it toward himself.
Jaime Lannister: We’re grateful to have good, strong men like you protecting us.
Jaime then begins to walk away.
Jon Snow: We’ve guarded the Kingdoms for 8,000 years.
Jaime turns around, and sneer at Jon a second time.
Jaime Lannister: Is it “we” already? Have you taken your vows then?
Jon Snow: Soon enough.
Jaime Lannister: Give my regards to the Night’s Watch. I’m sure it will be thrilling to serve in such an elite force. And if not, It’s only for life.
Jaime sneers a third time.
Jon looks at Mikken. Neither say a word.
